The Wix blog, filled by Opinly
Paste a site API key, pick an author, and Opinly publishes straight to your Wix blog in the format Wix expects. Your existing posts, authors and categories come across on connect, and publishing needs no plugin and no code in your site.
- CONNECT WITH
- A Wix API key plus your site ID — a one-click app install is not available yet
- OPINLY PUBLISHES
- Posts in Ricos, the rich-content format the Wix blog expects
- OPINLY IMPORTS
- Your existing posts, authors and categories
- ANALYTICS
- A one-line snippet you paste into your Wix custom code
Connecting Wix
The shortest setup of the CMS integrations, because Wix owns the blog structure and there is nothing to map.
- 1Connect your Wix site
Generate an API key on your Wix account's API Keys page with four permissions — Wix Blog, Manage Site Media, Wix Contacts & Members and Manage Your App — then paste your site URL, the key, and your site's Wix dashboard address, which Opinly reads the site ID from. The site needs the Wix Blog app installed first; Opinly checks for it and flags it as a required step if it is missing. There is no one-click app install yet, so the API key is the only way to connect.
- 2Pick a default author
Wix requires an author on every post, so Opinly asks which one to use by default. It has to be an author that came down from Wix — your existing posts, your authors, which on Wix are site members, and your categories are pulled in on connect, so the list is already populated. A member you delete in Wix is removed from Opinly at the next sync, and its posts move to your default author.
What actually publishes
Including the one requirement that will stop a publish if you skip it.
- Posts publish in Wix's own format
- Opinly converts the post to Ricos, the structured rich-content format the Wix blog reads, rather than pushing raw HTML at it. Headings, lists and images come through as real Wix blocks.
- Images upload to Wix media
- In-body images and the title image are uploaded into your Wix media library and referenced from there, so the post is not hotlinking anything.
- Publishing needs a Wix-backed author
- Every published post has to resolve to an author with a Wix member behind it. Opinly falls back to the original author on an update, but if it cannot find a Wix member the publish fails rather than posting under the wrong name. This is the one constraint worth knowing before you connect.
- Updates go through a draft cycle
- Editing an already-published post updates the Wix draft and republishes it, which is how the Wix blog expects changes to be made.
- Categories work both ways
- Your Wix categories sync down, folders you create in Opinly push up, and a category that does not exist yet is created at publish.
- Your site needs Wix Blog
- Opinly publishes into the Wix Blog app, and it cannot add that app for you. If the site does not have it, the Wix integration page marks it as a required step, so you can fix it before your first publish instead of finding out from a failed one.
Traffic and revenue tracking
Analytics is a separate connection from publishing. On Wix it is a snippet you paste, and it tracks traffic and form fills rather than purchases.
- You paste the snippet
- Every Wix site installs the pixel by hand: Opinly gives you a one-line script to add in Wix under Settings → Custom Code, in the head of all pages. The Wix card in the analytics setup is marked "Soon" because there is no automatic install for Wix yet.
- No automatic install on an API key
- An automatic install would need the Opinly Wix app installed on your site, and that route is not open. A Wix site connected with an API key, which is every Wix site today, installs the pixel with the snippet.
- Traffic and form fills, not purchases
- On Wix the pixel reports traffic, so your conversion goal is a form fill or plain analytics — the Purchases goal is not offered for Wix. Pick Wix for traffic reporting, not for tying a sale back to a post.
- Custom events still count
- If a form fill is not the right signal, you can send sign_up and generate_lead events from your site instead, and Opinly counts those as conversions.
Frequently asked questions
- Wix vs Webflow for a blog?
- Wix decides the blog structure for you, so connecting Opinly takes two steps rather than six — there is no collection to describe and no fields to map. Webflow gives you the structure in exchange for that setup. Both import posts, authors and categories, both need authors created on the platform first, and neither supports tags in Opinly. The sharper difference is what happens when an author is missing: Wix fails the publish, Webflow publishes with an empty author reference and a warning.
- Wix vs WordPress?
- WordPress is the more permissive of the two through Opinly: categories sync both ways, authors are ordinary WordPress users, and the analytics plugin installs itself when the connected user is an Administrator and your host allows remote installs. Wix is faster to connect and needs no Opinly plugin, but publishing depends on an author backed by a Wix member, and the pixel is a snippet you paste into your Wix custom code. WordPress can also attribute WooCommerce orders to a post; Wix cannot track purchases.
- Do I need to install anything on my Wix site?
- Nothing from Opinly for publishing: you connect with an API key, and there is no plugin or code block to maintain. Your site does need the Wix Blog app, which Opinly publishes into and cannot add for you. Analytics is separate: the pixel is a one-line snippet you paste into your Wix custom code.
- What happens to the posts already on my Wix blog?
- They are imported when you connect, along with your authors and categories. After that Opinly is the source of truth for the body — editing a post in the Wix editor will not flow back on its own, though a slug change will, and publishing from Opinly replaces edits made in Wix. To keep one, use Pull from external on the post before you publish it.
- Can I schedule posts?
- Yes, and the schedule lives in Opinly rather than in Wix, so it behaves the same way across every site you run.
- If I unpublish in Opinly, does the Wix post disappear?
- No. Unpublishing archives the post inside Opinly and leaves the live Wix article exactly where it is until you delete it there.
