A Shopify blog that sells

Install the app and Opinly publishes SEO articles into any blog on your store, imports the articles and tags you already have, and — with the analytics pixel pasted in — traces orders back to the post that brought the visitor in.

Connecting Shopify

App install only — there is no API-key route on Shopify. You need admin access to the store to approve it.

  1. 1
Install the Opinly app on your store

The wizard sends you to the Opinly app on Shopify. You pick the store, review the permissions — reading and writing content and files — and approve. Shopify returns you to Opinly and the token is verified and stored encrypted.

  2. 2
    Choose the default blog

All of your blogs are imported. The one you choose here is the default for new posts, and the blog Opinly files the posts it writes for you under; you can send an individual post to any of them. Opinly cannot create a Shopify blog — every store has one by default, so this step normally just lists them, but if it finds none you create the blog in Shopify and refresh.

  3. 3
    Pick a default author

Shopify treats the author as a plain name on the article, so you create authors directly in Opinly rather than syncing them down from the platform. The default is used when a post does not name one.

What actually publishes

Shopify behaves differently from the other integrations in a few places, and they are worth knowing before you connect rather than after.

Articles publish as HTML
Opinly renders the post to HTML and creates or updates the Shopify article, so your theme renders it exactly like anything else on your blog.
Authors are yours to create
Shopify has no author entity — the article just carries a name, so authors live in Opinly instead of syncing down from the platform as they do on WordPress, Webflow and Wix. The name is set when the article is first created; changing the author later does not change the byline on an article already in Shopify.
Blogs are read-only in Opinly
Shopify blogs sync down as folders and Opinly cannot push a new one up. A post has to be in a blog-linked folder before it can publish, because that folder is what tells Shopify which blog to file the article under. Posts Opinly writes for you go into your default blog.
Images are copied into your Shopify Files
Opinly uploads your images into the Files library in your Shopify admin — when an image is added, and again on each background sync, including images on posts that are still drafts. The article HTML and the featured image then point at the Shopify-hosted copy. An image that has not reached Shopify yet is left out of the pushed article rather than published broken.
Tags import, but do not push back
Shopify and HubSpot are the only CMS integrations where tags exist in Opinly at all. Shopify article tags are pulled down and deduplicated on import so you can browse and filter by them, but tags you create in Opinly are not written back to Shopify.
Publishing needs an author and a blog
Those are the two hard requirements. Miss either and Opinly refuses the publish with the reason rather than pushing an article Shopify will reject.

Traffic and revenue tracking

Analytics is a separate setup from publishing, but on Shopify it is not a separate app: Opinly generates a custom pixel and you paste it into your Shopify admin once.

Separate from publishing, but not a second app
Analytics is its own setup step rather than part of the content connect. You do not need a second Shopify app for it — the tracking is a piece of code you add in your Shopify admin.
Opinly generates the pixel code
You name the site, Opinly creates the publishable key and writes the pixel code around it. There is nothing to configure and nothing to edit — the wizard hands you the finished block to copy.
Today you paste it into Customer events
In your Shopify admin you go to Settings → Customer events, choose Add custom pixel, paste the code and save. It then runs inside the sandboxed Shopify customer-events runtime, capturing page views along with campaign parameters and the ad click IDs the major networks attach. Shopify only runs a custom pixel after the visitor consents, so the wizard also shows you the privacy settings to check if you want to measure everyone.
Revenue comes from the checkout event
The pixel subscribes to the Shopify checkout-completed event, so a purchase is reported from the browser with the order total and the Shopify order ID, which is what stops the same order being counted twice. That is what lets an order be traced back to the article that brought the visitor in.

Frequently asked questions

Can Opinly create a blog in my Shopify store?
No. Shopify blogs are read-only from Opinly — they sync down as folders and you create new ones in Shopify. This is the main structural difference from WordPress, Webflow and Wix, where Opinly can create the section it needs.
Does Opinly support Shopify article tags?
Partly. Tags on your existing articles are imported so you can browse and filter by topic. Outbound tag sync is not built for Shopify, so a tag added in Opinly stays in Opinly.
Where do the images in my articles live?
In your store. Opinly copies them into the Files library in your Shopify admin, including images on drafts, and the published article points at those Shopify-hosted copies. Files are not shown on your storefront unless a published article uses them. To remove one, delete it from the post in Opinly first, then from Files in Shopify.
Do I need two apps?
No. One app install covers publishing. Analytics is a separate step rather than a separate app — Opinly generates a custom pixel and you paste it into Settings → Customer events in your Shopify admin, so you only do it if you want traffic and order attribution as well. Publishing works perfectly well without it.
Can I attribute a sale to a blog post?
That is the point of the pixel. It records how a visitor arrived, including campaign parameters and ad click IDs, then reports the completed checkout with its total and Shopify order ID, so the sale lands against the visit that earned it.
If I unpublish in Opinly, is the article removed from my store?
No. Unpublishing archives the post inside Opinly. The Shopify article stays live until you delete it in Shopify.
