Your HubSpot blog, on autopilot

Sign in to HubSpot and Opinly publishes straight into your blogs — authors and tags included. The posts you already have are imported on the way in, and the modules you built in HubSpot come back out exactly as you left them.

Connecting HubSpot

Sign-in only — there is no API-key route on HubSpot. Your HubSpot account needs at least one blog, and you sign in as a HubSpot user who can manage its blog content.

  1. 1
    Sign in to HubSpot

Click Connect HubSpot and HubSpot asks you to choose an account and allow Opinly to manage its content. Approve it and you are sent back to Opinly. Cancel on that screen and nothing is connected; you can start again whenever you are ready.

  2. 2
    Choose your default blog

Opinly lists the blogs in that HubSpot account and you pick the one most posts should go to. Opinly cannot create a HubSpot blog, so if the account has none you create one in HubSpot and refresh.

  3. 3
Opinly imports what you already have

Picking the blog starts the import: your HubSpot blogs, authors and tags straight away, then your published posts in the background. Drafts in HubSpot are not imported, because they are not on your site.

  4. 4
    Pick a default author

The author a post is credited to when it does not name one. You can pick an imported HubSpot author or one you create in Opinly.

What actually publishes

HubSpot differs from the other integrations in two places worth knowing up front: your blogs are the folders, and tags travel with the post.

Posts go up as HTML
Opinly renders the post to HTML, FAQs included, and sends it with the slug, meta title, meta description, summary and featured image. A new post is created as a draft and then published, and the address HubSpot reports back is the one Opinly stores, so links and reports use the real URL.
Each blog is a folder
HubSpot has no categories, but an account can have several blogs, and each one becomes a folder in Opinly. A post in one of those folders publishes to that blog; any other post goes to your default blog. New blogs are created in HubSpot, then appear in Opinly on the next refresh.
Authors work both ways
Your HubSpot blog authors are imported, and you can also create authors in Opinly. The first time a post by an Opinly-only author publishes, Opinly creates that author in HubSpot.
Tags are pushed with the post
HubSpot is the only CMS integration where Opinly sends tags out. Your HubSpot tags are imported, a post’s tags go with it when it publishes, and a tag HubSpot does not have yet is created there. Clear a post’s tags in Opinly and they are cleared in HubSpot on the next publish.
Images stay on the Opinly CDN
Nothing is uploaded to your HubSpot file manager. Images made in Opinly, in the body and as the featured image, are sent as Opinly-hosted URLs that HubSpot renders as they are.
A taken slug is resolved for you
If another HubSpot page already uses a post’s address when it first publishes, HubSpot gives it a slightly different one and Opinly updates the post’s slug to match. Change a live post’s slug to one another page already has and the publish is refused with that reason, so you can pick another.

What comes back from HubSpot

Posts written in HubSpot are often more than text. Here is what survives the trip into Opinly and back, and what does not.

HubSpot modules survive the round trip
A button, form or other module you added in HubSpot’s editor comes into Opinly as a locked block labelled as a HubSpot module. You can move or delete it, and publishing sends it back exactly as it was. To change the module itself, edit it in HubSpot.
Images you uploaded in HubSpot come with the post
On import, images hosted on HubSpot or your blog’s own domain are copied into Opinly so the post stays complete, and a re-publish keeps pointing at your original HubSpot file. Embedded videos from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Wistia and HubSpot video come across too.
Other embedded code does not
An iframe from any other site is not imported, and it is removed from the live post the next time you publish from Opinly. Re-add it in HubSpot.
Opinly is the source of truth for the body
After import, edits made to a post inside HubSpot do not flow back on their own, and the next publish from Opinly replaces them. Slug changes do sync back. Pull from external on a draft copies HubSpot’s current title and text into Opinly when you want them.
New HubSpot posts are picked up
Opinly checks for newly published HubSpot posts on its own regularly, and Refresh from HubSpot on the integration page imports new blogs, authors, tags and posts on demand.
Deleting in HubSpot breaks the link, not the post
If a post was deleted in HubSpot, Opinly says so when it next tries to update it. Publishing again creates it as a new HubSpot post.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a HubSpot API key or private app?
No. You sign in to HubSpot and approve Opinly’s access to your account’s content. There is nothing to copy or paste, and any member of your Opinly organisation can connect it.
Can Opinly create a blog in my HubSpot account?
No. Each HubSpot blog appears in Opinly as a folder, but new blogs are created in HubSpot. Click Refresh from HubSpot afterwards and the new blog shows up as a folder you can publish to.
What happens to the modules in my existing posts?
They are kept. A module added in HubSpot’s editor is imported as a locked block and sent back unchanged when the post publishes. Editing posts through Opinly’s MCP connector is the exception: it works in Markdown, which drops the block.
Where do the images in my posts live?
Images Opinly creates are hosted on the Opinly CDN and are not copied into your HubSpot file manager. Images you uploaded in HubSpot keep pointing at your HubSpot files.
Does Opinly install its analytics pixel on HubSpot?
No. Opinly does not install the pixel on HubSpot for you. Copy the Other (HTML snippet) code from Opinly’s analytics settings and paste it into your site’s head HTML in HubSpot.
If I unpublish or delete a post in Opinly, is it removed from HubSpot?
No. Archiving or deleting a post in Opinly never removes the HubSpot copy. Unpublish or delete it in HubSpot as well.
